“Addressing WSU’s Land Grant History and the Appropriation of Native Lands: Exploring a More Equitable Future”

November 6, 2023 @ 3:00 pm - 4:30 pm

At the start of Native American Heritage Month, Zoe Higheagle Strong, WSU vice provost for Native American Relations and Programs and tribal liaison to the WSU President, will present an overview of the history of the Morrill Act and the Enabling Act that contributed to the establishment of land-grant institutions. She will explore why universities such as WSU have a unique responsibility to tribal communities and nations within their regions. Higheagle Strong will also discuss WSU’s Memorandum of Understanding agreement with 14 regional tribal nations and the significance of these partnerships. Hosted by the WSU Pullman Common Reading Program and the Center for Native American Research and Collaboration. REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED TO ATTEND!
