Resources for Faculty and Staff

Welcome to the teaching guide for this year’s Common Reading text, Robin Wall Kimmerer’s Braiding Sweetgrass: Indigenous Wisdom, Scientific Knowledge, and the Teachings of Plants!  We are pleased to share ideas about how you might use the common reading to enhance your work with students, whether in a class, residence hall, advising, or other campus program.  You will find many suggestions incorporated into this guide for ways you might utilize campus resources in your work with students. A full list of resources is included at the end of the guide.

The guide has been prepared for you thanks to a Transformational Change Initiative IDEA grant in 2022 from the WSU Office of the Provost and Executive Vice President. The grant effort was led by Samantha Solomon in collaboration with Julian Ankney, Corey Johnson, Karen Weathermon, and Kara Whitman.

In addition to this guide, be sure to also check the Common Reading calendar page for the latest updates on scheduled speakers and events offered to students outside of classes. Any questions or suggestions should be directed to Karen Weathermon, director of the Common Reading Program, at kweathermon@wsu.edu.
