Dr. Joseph Stramondo and Leah Smith on “Finding Yourself by Finding Community: Reflections on Growing Up Far From the Tree”

December 1, 2021 @ 12:00 pm - 1:30 pm

The documentary Far From the Tree seeks to explore the central question of how members of a family create durable, loving relationships across vastly different social identities and experiences of the world. Stramondo and Smith are featured in the film as Little People who have both average-size parents and average-size children of their own. In this talk, they present how communities of peers can help bridge the gap between parent and child when their identities and experiences diverge. Stramondo is an associate professor of philosophy and the director of the Institute for Ethics and Public Affairs at San Diego State University, where he researches how systems of oppression have influenced bioethical thought, education, policy, and practice. Smith is the project coordinator for the Center for Dignity in Healthcare for People with Disabilities. Hosted by the WSU Access Center and the Disabled Students and Allies Club  Registration for this event: https://accesscenter.wsu.edu/awareness-events/2021-fall-speaker-series/dr-stramondo-leah-smith-mpa/
