“How Far We’ve Come: A Reflection on the Impact of Title IX,” Women’s Leadership Summit
March 4 @ 1:00 pm - 2:30 pm
Title IX, the federal civil rights law that prohibits sex-based discrimination in any educational institution that receives federal funding, was passed 50 years ago this June. WSU played a substantial part in the history of Title IX with Blair v. Washington State University, a landmark women’s rights case that changed the way our state’s public colleges and universities support women’s athletics. This year’s Women’s Leadership Summit, hosted by the WSU Alumni Association, salutes this anniversary and WSU’s role. WSU First Lady Dr. Noel Schulz will moderate a panel composed of attorney Jane Yung, retired WSU coach Dr. Sue Durrant; retired WSU Senior Associate Director of Athletics Marcia Saneholtz; WSU alumna and national sports host and anchor Cindy Brunson; and WSU Athletics Hall of Fame basketball and track and field record-setter Jeanne (Eggart) Helfer. These amazing panelists will share their experiences with gender equality and participate in a Q&A session with attendees.
