Sina Sam on Family Separation and Deportations and the Asian American and Pacific Islander Communities

April 28, 2020 @ 5:00 pm - 6:00 pm

To participate in this live, synchronous event, join Sina Sam’s presentation using Zoom.

Sina Sam (Academic Outreach and Innovation) will talk about her advocacy with the Khmer Anti-deportation Advocacy Group of Washington, and about the larger issues of family separation and deportation impacting the Asian American and Pacific Islander community. She will speak about how mass incarceration and increased deportations impact Cambodian American refugees, who are also survivors of genocide in their home country. A graduate of WSU’s Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies Program, Sam was appointed by Governor Inslee to the state Commission on Asian Pacific American Affairs, where she is the first Khmer American woman to serve in this capacity. She is also a frequent speaker at national conferences educating about Southeast Asian deportations and issues affecting the AAPI community.

Note: Verification of attendance available.
