So, What’s Your Fandom?: Participatory Culture in the Digital Age

Presented by Lorena O’English, from WSU Libraries. After reading Ready Player One, it’s very clear that author and screenwriter Ernest Cline is a fan of 1980s video games, music, and popular culture. But what does it mean to be a fan? Some of his early screenplays were, in fact, fan fiction. O’English will talk about aspects of fan culture and fanfiction, from their beginnings to the present.
