Thabiti Lewis (English) on “What WSU’s Common Reading Books Help Us Understand about the History of Activism in Sports”

Thabiti Lewis (WSU Vancouver) will explore the importance of the WSU’s two Common Reading texts exploring race, identity, and culture. In his memoir Born a Crime Trevor Noah shares his story, giving us an international perspective, while in Tell Me Who You Are (being used by WSU Vancouver) Priya Guo and Winona Vulchi remind us that telling our stories and hearing others’ stories is essential to building our humanity and personal growth. These texts help us better understand what the recent social justice through the lens of sport. Lewis encourage attendees to reflect on and craft notes for their own story in the process. Hosted by the WSU Pullman and Vancouver Common Reading Programs.
