The concluding film in a 7-part series “Have You Heard From Johannesburg”, this film depicts South African history in the 1980s, the period of time of Trevor Noah’s youth. It chronicles the protests and other efforts led by the United Democratic Front (UDF) and the outlawed African National Congress (ANC). These actions, supported by an international anti-apartheid movement, ultimately led to the overthrow of the white rule of apartheid and the release of Nelson Mandela after 27 years of imprisonment. This film provides the historical context that forms the backdrop for Trevor Noah’s book.
