“Resilience: The Biology of Stress and the Science of Hope” (documentary film)

October 24, 2018 @ 3:30 pm - 5:00 pm

Presented in Todd 276*

This 2016 documentary chronicles new medical research on the effects of childhood trauma, revealing how toxic stress can trigger hormones that wreak havoc on the brains and bodies of children, putting them at a greater risk for disease, homelessness, prison time, and early death. The film also chronicles the work of trailblazers in pediatrics, education, and social welfare who are using cutting-edge science and field-tested therapies to protect children from the insidious effects of toxic stress. Film screenings will be followed by a facilitated discussion. Common Reading credit is available for those who are present for both the film and discussion.  Sponsored by the Division of Student Affairs, WSU Athletics, Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, Prevention Science Graduate Student Organization, ASWSU, and GPSA.

*Film will be shown also from 5:30-7:30 p.m. in CUE 203.
