“U.S. Nuclear Weapons: What Are They Good For?”

April 9, 2018 @ 4:30 pm - 6:00 pm

Gen. Kevin Chilton, a former astronaut and commander of U.S. Strategic Command, will talk about the question of whether nuclear deterrence has been successful in guaranteeing peace, as well as future U.S. challenges. Chilton retired in 2011 as a four-star general commanding U.S. Strategic Command, where he was responsible for the global command and control of U.S strategic forces. His distinguished career also included flying three space shuttle missions as both commander and pilot, logging over 704 hours in space.  He also served as Deputy Program Manager for the International Space Station. His four-star rank is the highest rank every achieved by an astronaut. This talk is sponsored by the Thomas S. Foley Institute for Public Policy and Public Service.
