Showing of 2019 documentary film and Q&A with directors Thabiti Lewis and Pavithra Narayanan, professors at WSU Vancouver

By the mid 20th century, descendants of slaves taken from Africa between the 1500s to 1800s were living in Chicago, where they built an aesthetic movement emphasizing poetry, art, and literature. The Black Arts Movement pulled from the rhythms of blues, jazz, gospel music, street slang, and confrontational rhetoric. Sponsored by the Dept. of English Visiting Writers Series.
